MELISSA SPILLMAN (WOODS)
FOUNDER AND ARTIST
Mel is a Noongar Aboriginal Artist living on Whadjuk Country, Western Australia.

Mel was born in Nambour, Gubbi Gubbi Country in Queensland and moved to Western Australia at the age of 10.

Through a variety of mediums, Mel uses paint as a tool to tell stories and share knowledge. Raised away from her Aboriginal heritage, Mel wasn’t connected to her culture. Through painting she seeks to rebuild that connection, with a self-taught practice that extends from acrylics on canvas to digital designs and large murals.

"My inspiration comes from learning, growing and sharing knowledge. Always reflecting and learning from the past. I am really passionate about telling stories through art, keeping my heritage and culture alive."
Maarakool Art was born from this passion and Mel is so grateful to share this with you all.
